What I Loved This Week

Came across this by one of my favourite artists Cornelia Parker at the V&A

Spring has sprung :)

I bought this from Camden Market- Andy hates him but I think he's so cool!

Wanderland at the Saatchi Gallery

I only recently heard about Wanderland, I'm not sure how much press it has been given but I thought it was worth a look. I can definitely say this was one of the strangest exhibitions I have ever been to- in all honesty, I'm not completely sure I 'got' it.

In essence this is an Hermes exhibition, based on their 2015 theme of urban wandering and reveling in the unexpected. The backdrop is Paris and is a continuous theme within the 11 rooms, by different artists in different media, which displays their luxurious accessories- shoes, bags, watches cuff links.... It is very quirky and very beautiful but you definitely feel like you are in Wonderland. I just felt like there was a lot more to this than beautiful products and gorgeous sets, but I don't know what that was. There are guides in each room who can give you a little bit of information but I have to admit I couldn't see an obvious link from one room to another, you just jump from a Parisian cafe to a room full of graffiti to a side walk where you can hear passer by's thoughts with no explanation.

Wanderland is only on until May 2nd and is free, so worth a look in if you're in the Chelsea area. Let me know what you think!

Leake Street's Graffiti Tunnel

I can't even remember how I heard about this place, but I'm so glad I went to see it. Its the only place in the city where graffiti is legal, and because of this you wont find teenage tagging but instead what I consider amazing art by extremely talented people. Its definitely worth a trip- and every time would be different as people just repaint over the walls.

DIY- Marbled Mugs

I've always loved marbling- it's so simple but so effective, and I think this idea from Pinterest is amazing! Mine did take a few attempts, but I liked the idea of having only a section of the cup covered, so I used nail varnish remover to create a clean line on either side. Another thing I liked was how a little bit of colour ended up inside the cup- all in all I'm pleased :) Here's how to make one...

Fill an old bowl (I used an old ice cream tub) with warm water. Choose your nail varnish and pour a couple of drops into the water and swirl with a cocktail stick until you have the desired effect. Dunk your cup in and swirl it through the nail varnish. If you're not happy you can use nail varnish remover to wipe it off and then have another go. Once you like the pattern, place it on some old newspaper to dry overnight.

The Ideal Home Show

M&S is sponsoring the Ideal Home Show this year, and as I work on the homeware department, we got free tickets! Now I love shopping for home stuff just as much as clothes so I jumped at the chance, especially as it is only a ten minute walk from my flat.

One thing I wasn't prepared for was the amount of people trying to sell you double glazing or a Smeg fridge. But if you ignore them you can spend hours mooching round different stalls, both homeware, fashion and accessories, and have a nosy around room displays, entire houses and the Gap House, all beautifully decorated. The Gap House was designed to fit in the space between two houses and was three metres wide. It was three floors but still showed what can be done with very little space. It was definitely inspiring!
