This year it was the tenth birthday of Bestival, so we
picked a good year to go, and it definitely lived up to expectations! I met the
lovely Leanne, who I hadn't seen since last summer, and we
travelled to the Isle of Wight.
With Elton John headlining, it was a weekend to
remember. He played Bennie and the Jets
which made my weekend and finished with Your Song which was incredible. My
favourite band in the entire world were also playing, Bastille, and they were
absolutely amazing. We also saw
Disclosure, although my claustrophobia got the better of me during their set,
DJ Fresh, Belle and Sebastian, Mark Ronson and Zane Lowe, who were way better
than I thought it would be, Crystal Fighters, James Blake, Tom Odell and Franz
Ferdinand.
There was so much other stuff to do as well- we wandered
around the Ambient Forest, where hammocks were strung across trees, had a ride
on a ferris wheel, bought headbands, earrings and a vintage dress I'm hopefully
going to turn into a jacket, and ate crepes made by a beautiful French
man. We wanted to see some comedy but
there just wasn't time... maybe next year...
I am also a huge fan of dressing up and the theme this year
was HMS Bestival, so we were surrounded by sailors, pirates, and mermaids, and
hence the mermaid-esque emerald green disco pants I am wearing... however the
outfits went a little off course when I bought my amazing feather headdress,
which covered up my unwashed hair- although dry shampoo is amazing, I can't believe
I have got through the past twenty five years without using it! Leanne even
sprayed her hair blue for the occasion :) Some of the outfits were incredible
though, people really went to town. We
saw jellyfish complete with lights, SpongeBob Square Pants, old fashioned scuba
divers, and even actual boats.
Despite a small disagreement with a pop up tent, the weekend
was amazing and I didn't even care about the rain, although the campsite was
like a swamp by the time we left. On the last night we had to be up at half
four to go home, so we just didn't go to bed- as a result I slept for fourteen
hours straight when I finally got home.
