Blood Swept Land and Seas of Red

On a recent whistle- stop trip to London, I ummed and ahhed about taking a significant detour which would resolve in me having to wait several hours for an off peak train, to go and see the poppies at the Tower of London. I was so glad I did. It was cold, wet and starting to get dark so the photos aren't great and as you probably know, they're being taken down and boxed up, but it still looked breath taking.

A sea of red just consumes the whole castle. As a piece of art, it is stunningly beautiful  and the scale of it all is just incredible, but when you stop and think that each poppy represents a life, it becomes even more incredible. To me, art has to mean something- the concept behind the art is what's important and looking pretty is a bonus. Blood Swept Land and Seas of Red made me proud to be British and extremely thankful to the 888,246 people who died for us during World War One and the millions of people who have done and will do since then.
