So according to the fashion forces,
skinny jeans are out and boyfriend fit jeans are in. Jeans in general are my nemesis, I can rarely find a pair
that fit ok/ wash ok/ look ok so I don’t tend to wear them very often… But you can’t
go wrong with skinny jeans. It feels like they have been around forever and have
become the uniform of choice for almost every social group, probably because
they’re so versatile. They can be dressed up or down with enough variations to
keep everyone happy- embellished, coloured, panelled, ripped, you name it, they’ve
made it. Skinnies have even started trends;
they made ballet pumps prolific, and led to the creation of jeggings. Maybe it’s a sign of the times- less fabric
means lower costs, something on everyone’s mind during a recession, and they have become a wardrobe staple therefore are a good investment.
But boyfriend jeans just keep on coming back. To me, they can only be
worn casually, because they usually come with rips and a little cuff at the
hem, which is great if that’s what you’re after. I like the shape, its more forgiving than
skinny’s, but I never know what shoes to wear with them, which makes them so limiting! And because they’re supposed to be for your
boyfriend, they don’t fit properly. But after all that, I do love the lime and navy striped ones from Forever 21 so who knows, I might just give them another try....
